My gt grandmother Mary Elizabeth Palmer nee Marshal was born in Lambeth in 1847. She moved to Durham with her husband Henry shortly after her marriage in 1871/ I have a lot of info from census and BMDs etc but cannot find details of her death. She was alive in 1901 (census) and Henry died in 1919 but she was not present at his death. She may have died between 1901 and 1919 but there is no trace. I suspect that when her husband died she returned to the London area. Can anyone out there help me or give me some advice. It would be appreciated. Geoff.
I take it from your post that you have taken the information that Mary Elizabeth Palmer was "not present at his death" from Henry's death cert.
Who did register the death ?
" Present at death" or alternatively " in Attendence" is shown on death certs by the Registrar when the person registering the death is asked when questioned as to whether they actually witnessed the death.i.e present at death or if they were simply just registering the death, they could be a friend, relative or neighbour doing the bereaved family a favour. If the person was present at death, the relationship of the person registering is shown, i.e. wife of, husband of, etc.
Another point to look for, if it is a woman's death, the occupation slot will show whether she is the wife of or widow of.. the husband's name.
So it could be that Mary Elizabeth did not pre-decease her husband & could still be alive after 1919, or there is this death entry.
