RE: Beard Family in Shap about 1820's
« on: Wednesday 15 June 05 23:32 BST (UK) »

Please can you help me.

I am trying to find the baptism of a MARY ANN BEARD who was born abt 1825 Possibly in Shap.

She was the daughter of John Beard who was Railway agent.

She married THOMAS DOBB at Penrith In 1846.

Has anyone seen her baptism or seen her on the 1841 census.

I would be very grateful for help

Do you know if John Beard had a brother called Thomas Beard and is there any chance he could have been in Cheshire in 1824 - I've got several references to him in my search for Campbells in Wilmslow around that time.

Thank you for your message

Unfortunatley I know very little about John Beard who was the Father of Mary Ann who was my Great Great Grandmother.

It is possible that John was the son of John & Elizabeth (Baird) nee Campbell who was christened 16 JUL 1784  in Campsie, Stirling, Scotland.

I don't have any evidence to suggest  that he was in Cheshire in 1824, his daughter Mary Ann was born In 1825 and the 1851 census says that she was born in  Famhall Bank, Lancashire, England

This is the entry on the 1851 census

1851 Census
Price Street, the Chapel House, Birkenhead (St Anne) Cheshire
Thomas Dobb Head M 25 Labourer Lancashire, Golbourne
Mary Ann Dobb Wife Famhall Bank, Lancashire, England
Henry Dobb Son 2 Golbourne, Lancashire
John Beard Wifes Father 68 Campsie, Scotland
Mary Beard Wifes Mother 70 Yorkshire Bradford

let me know if you thibnk there could be a connection

Regards

Sue
