Grand parents Marriage Completed
« on: Wednesday 16 January 08 21:52 UTC (UK) »

Hi, I am having a bit of a time trying to find the marrage of my G/parents,
John O'Neill b. Ballymore Eustace 1875. d.1969 in Dublin. and my G/Mother
Margaret O'Sullivan, as we always believed, but I found a birth record for a Margaret Sullivan in Tipperary for 1869. My G/Mother died in 1969 in Dublin. They married in 1903
we knew she came from Bansha. my son tells me if you have an O before your name this means you are RC, this birth record I got from the Tipp site says the
Denomination ......Civil Parish/District. from this record I found her Mothers maiden name and her Fathers name which is Sullivan. so I put those names in and found they were RC.    are you still with me ?  Married in Cahir Parish.
so now I am really lost. my G/Mother I was told worked as a seamstress in Kildare, but I cannot find a Marriage record in Tipperary or Kildare. now where should I look ?
Any help in any way would be very greatfully received.
Thank you.

Mags.

Have you checked to marriage indexes for around 1903 and after in case they got married out of the area? If you match up both names (she Sullivan/O'Sullivan and he Neill/O'Neill) with same ref numbers it would indicate a match.

Hi Aghadowey,
I have checked marriage records in Kildare and Tipperary for as you say Sullivan/OSullivan , but I am certain my G/fathers name is O'Neill.
It is my G/Mother's name I am uncertain of.
I am sorry dont know how to check the indexes, I just checked on the Kildare and Tipperary sites, with names and dates.
Thank you for getting back to me.

I meant the actual marriage indexes from PRO, Dublin which cover all Ireland- sometimes on these county sites there are mistakes, names transcribed, coverage not complete, etc.
You may be sure of your grandfather's name but it could be something different on the actual marriage certificate and in the indexes.
Some LDS libraries have the indexes on microfilm- start off with one volume for each year and then at some point (can't remember date) changes to one per quarter (i.e. there are 4 for each year) so if your local LDS library doesn't have them in stock you would have to order lots of microfilm to find entry (index lists Christian name and surname, Registry District (no actual place of marriage), volume and page number which you then use to find certificate).
