1891 & 1901 Census John and Ann Hopps - Complete
« on: Thursday 17 January 08 21:38 GMT (UK) »

I wonder if any on can help me to find this family? John and Ann were married in 1883 and by 1891 had 5 children - Martha, William, Barbara, Thomas and Margaret and then had another 3 by 1901 - Elizabeth, John and Hilda. John was born ca1860 and Ann in ca1862
Thanks in advance.

In 1901 I have them at 48 Granville Terrace, Whitworth.

By this time William had become a coal miner and Thomas a colliery screenman.

Along with those living in the family in 1891, there are:

Elizabeth  Hopps  dau   7   Durham Whitworth
John           "         son    5     "           Merrington
Hilda           "         dau  6 months  "       "

RG13 4650 9 9

Is this what you are after?  I see you have most of these details already, what exactly are you looking for? Undecided

Best wishes

Glad I could help Derek  Wink

Would you like me to follow John and Ann in earlier census?

That would be great Amanda, I have Ann going back to 1871, she was born 1862 the first child of John Blenkin and Barbara Glendenning.
I have no further information about John except his full name was John George Hopps so anything about him would be most useful.

In 1881 I believe I have found him as a boarder living at Jane Terrace, St Andrew, Auckland.
He is listed as being unmarried, aged 20, coal miner born in Durham; living with another coal mining family William and Ann Lee.
RG11 4917 44 31.

In 1871 he is living at Ranters Yard, Shildon.
Daniel Hardy    Head  marr   39   coalminer     Durham Etherley
Mary     "          wife     marr   39                           Wales
James C Smith  stepson unm  17       "            Durham Escombe
Margaret Hardy  dau       unm  12                        "         "
John    Hopps    stepson  unm  10                       "
Edward  ??       lodger      unm  22     "             Yorks  Huddersfield

Incidentally, the family living next door are William and Ann Lee who John lodged with in 1881.  Shocked

I can't find an entry for him in 1861 so he must have been born after the census.
