1851 CENSUS Look up HANNAFORD/HILL

Hi

I would like help in finding the 1851 census which started the roots of the HANNAFORD-HILL surname.

A HANNAFORD living with his housekeeper named HILL and having 7 children. 

George HANNAFORD aged 46 (in 1851) lived in the Alms House in Stoke Gabriel next door to (also the Alms House)a Hirena Hill aged 27 who was unmarried with 6 Children.

I am helping my friend a pensioner who is unable to see very well.  She married Edward HANNAFORD HILL who unfortunately died.  She has 3 daughters and a son named HANNAFORD HILL.

That is a surprise!  The 1871 census!   The 1881 gives Edmond H HILL as head of his family and Anne Meade is listed as the mother of their children, they are listed as H HILL.  I might be able to find more about them and a birth for George who seems to be 5 years older than previously.   I have just found some BMD's of them by GOOGLE!!

I am assuming the Irena in actually Hirena in 1871.

Have you tried the FreeBMD site.  It is a great resource for finding BMD in England.

I rang my friend Diana last evening, she knew the story of Irena HILL and George HANNAFORD.  Her version is - they didn't marry because he was from a wealthy family and dissaproved of her, it was a love match. 

She is going to the Northallerton Library with her magnifying glass to search for her in-laws marriage today.  They were Edward HANNAFORD HILL abt 1905 Paignton - married Doreen LEWIS bn abt 1906. 

She herself was adopted and was brought up in Cornwall;  researched, her own roots finding identical twin brothers and another who had died, who was in the army.   Her birth mother was a single lady when she had the 3 children, very close together.  She and her brothers are all tall and so alike they look like triplets!  She had never been told by her wealthy parents she was adopted!! She found evidence of it after they died.

I am a KITCHEN and she found that she had been born a KITCHEN too from Yorkshire!
