Maurice,
My sincere thanks to you for providing me with that information. I am a senior who resides in Nova Scotia, Canada, and the team on this Site has been very good to me.When you reach a stumbling block, and don't know what to try next, I have to say it was nice to find this Site
Would I be able to get Marriage and Birth Certificates for the children mentioned?

Hi Doris,
Sorry, but before 1837, and the introduction of Civil Registration, there were no Birth, Marriage or Death Certificates, just the entries in the Parish Registers; some of which are better than others.
If you would like me to have a look in the Lilleshall Parish Registers for anyone, probably in a week or so, let me know.
Regards,
Maurice

Maurice,
I thank you for your kind offer and it would be appreciated. Not being familiar with the area. Do you have to drive into Lilleshall and does it mean a lot of travel?
I am thinking of William Leese and Esther and their children: Mary (1761); Sarah (1765); Esther (1768); William (1770); James (1772); Robert (1774)
And also Maurice, if I could prevail on your good nature, and when time presents itself, could you please try and find information on my great aunts and great uncles. They are: William Thomas Leese (abt. 1870); Sabina Leese (abt. 1877); William H. Leese (abt. 1884); Harriet Leese )abt. 1887); Albert E. Leese (abt. 1889). There is also Julia; John; George; Leonard; Joseph (my grandfather. These latter names I have a certain amount of information. My great grandparents were Thomas Leese & Sarah Ann Bradley.
At your convenience, see what help you can get me.
Thank you.
Dorisl

Hi Doris,
A couple more snippets for your collection:
On January 24th 1797, James Lees (b. 1772) married Ann Williams at St Michael's Lilleshall after banns; both 'of this parish'.
On August 12th 1799, William Leese married Jane ? (awful writing but is probably Jane Ward) also at St Michael's, Lilleshall, after banns, both 'of this parish'.
Couldn't find any of the later christenings at Lilleshall but, from the census records, it seems the family was living at Donnington Wood; same parish and only two miles away but, after 1845, with its own church, St Matthew's. I'll have a look at their baptism records sometime soon.
Meanwhile:
On September 20th 1869, Thomas Lees, aged 21, bachelor, a miner, son of William Lees, a miner; married Sarah Ann Bradley, aged 23, a spinster, daughter of Thomas Bradley, a miner, at St Matthew's church, Donnington Wood.
I think the G.R.O. Ref. for this marriage is: September 1869 Newport, Shropshire 6a 1258
Regards,
Maurice

Maurice,
My sincere thanks for the information you sent me on James Leese. I have finally got the maiden name for his spouse and also the maiden name for the spouse of William Leese. I am fascinated with maiden names of spouses.
I have gotten back to approx. 1709 (nothing complete) Where would I try and find information on John Lees (abt. 1709i) his spouse, Katherine Summerfield. They were married on August 24, 1731. John died August 24, 1762. Children are: Mary (1732); Rebecca (1733) died Jan. 4, 1734; Elizabeth Lees (1735). She married June 15, 1757 Thomas Crowder; John (1738); Richard (1740), died Apr. 22, 1748; Damuel (1742). He married on May 4, 1775 Elizabeth Icke; Anne (1744) died Mar. 17, 1745; Thomas (1746), died Oct. 14, 1753); William (1752), Spouse is Hester Roystons. WILLIAM AND HESTER ARE MY DIRECT LINE
I am open for suggestions in connection with the 2nd paragraph.
Again I do want to thank you for the information you have sent me.

Hi Doris,
As names tend to run in families, and Sabina is somewhat unusual, is this family one of yours?
Father: William Lees, Mother: Mary Harriett Lees - Christening: 19 MAR 1837 Edward Lees - Chr: 23 JUN 1839 Joanna Lees - Chr: 11 JUL 1841 Jonah Lees - Chr: 07 JUL 1844 Sabina Lees - Chr: 26 JUL 1846 All christened at St Michael's, Lilleshall.
Interesting photos you sent to the St Matthew's website, I was baptised and married at that church; did you know you can now purchase a CD containing the St Matthew's Parish Records via their website. http://www.st-matthews-donningtonwood.com/
Regards,
Maurice

Hi Maurice,
Yes, Sabina is my family, although I have the name spelt Sabrina. She is my great-grandfather' sister. His name is Thomas (1848. I notice his name was not included in your list, Possibly he was somewhere else at the time. He was the 6th child.
I was pleased you saw the Site. I was most honoured to be included in this. My grandmother and her family came to Canada in 1909 and brought those pictures with her. They sat in a drawer wrapped in tissue paper for years. When I became involved with Paul Thompson, Church Archivist, I told him I would send him copies of the pictures, and so you read there was a little story compiled. My mother and grandmother would be so pleased that these pictures have been returned home to their rightful place. We are looking close to 100 yrs.
I did receive the CD you mentioned, but I was unable to open it. I tell all my e-mail friends that I live in a rural community where we do not have "high speed internet" and so therefore, there are just a lot of things that are unable to be opened We are connected through our telephone, so if we lose telephone service, you are not going to get to use your computer.
I really do appreciate all your help, and I hope that if you come up with any more information, please pass it on.
Regards,
Doris
