wow I am impressed!!!!

We are quietly confident that we know of the dates of their deaths and burials (William - 17/1/49?? and Sarah 5/12/37)

With regard to other children, they also has Nellie (born before Sidney) and Freda. We have relevant info on Freda as this was my grandmother.

What would be really appreciative if you have any info on Sarah Viner's mum?? as have nothing on her and maybe baptisims for william and Sarah.. Many Thanks

Just out of curioursity it is possible to obtain these PR records by subscribing to something???

Thanks again Sue.

Hi

I don't know if you have any of this family (Viner) in the censuss but I went looking to see if they were in Abingdon - it appears they were,  though Philip was born in Appleton and Martha in Wootton,  I can't see any baptisms at the C of E churches but it is possible they were non-comformist,  Abingdon had several chaples at this time

1891 Abingdon St Nichs, Abbey

Martha Viner 51 wid tailoress born Wootton Oxfs.
Edwin Viner 31
Martha Viner 28

Ellen Hartwell 23
Albert Viner 17  (occupation soldier)
Frank Viner 14
Clara Viner 13
Heber Viner 10
Harry Viner 7

All born Abingdon - all except Albert sewing machinists - no occupation for Edwin

from 1881 - St Nichs - Abbey

Philip Viner 45  bricklayer - born Appleford
Edwin Viner 21  lab in brickyard
Sarah Viner 15
Ellen Viner 13
Mary Viner 9
Albert P. Viner 7
Frank Viner 4
Clara Viner 3

from 1871 Abingdon

Philip Viner 37  bricklayer born Appleford Berks
Martha Viner 31  tailoress born Wootton Oxfs.
Edwin Viner 11
Martha Viner 9
Sarah Viner 5
Ellen Viner 3
Alice Viner 1

from 1861 Abingdon St Nichs - Abbey

Philip Viner 27
Martha Viner 21
Edwin Viner 1
William Wallis 22  lodger born Ascot

from 1851 Appleford Berkshire

Philip Viner 44  Ag Lab born Appleford
Mary Viner 42   born Harwell Berks
Philip Viner 17
George Viner 15
Job Viner 15
Sarah Viner 12
Benjamin Viner 10

Hi Debbie,

Thank you for your assistance.  It all appears to fit in well. However I have one question (sorry if I am being a little thick) but from previous info gathered regarding Sarah and Ellen's marraiges (in 1891 and 1894 respectively) it states that their father Philip was a bricklayer but having receieved your info it appears that he died in 1888.  Surely on the marriage certificate it would state 'deceased' or would they put in his occupation when he was alive???  Any more info you are able to give on any of the viners would be much appreciated..

Thanks again

Hi Gill

wether they wrote the occupation or deceased on the marriage,  when the father was already dead seems to have been pretty random and up to the person officiating at the marriage,  there are many cases in the Abingdon records and others where the occupation is put in just as if the father was still alive.

I think this would be Martha with her family in 1841 in Wootton in Oxfordshire - I wondered which Wootton it was cos there's one in Berkshire as well that is closer to Abingdon - but it appears its the Oxfordshire one which ties in with Woodstock for the registration district on the marriage

from 1841 census - Wootton Oxfordshire

John Benbow 35
Hannah Benbow 35
William Benbow 12
Sarah Benbow 10
Mary Benbow 8
Jane Benbow 6
Eliza Benbow 4
Martha Benbow 1

At the moment I can't find the family in 1851 or 61 - but John and Hannah were still alive cos I've found them in 1871 still in Wootton - though all the children have left home

Hannah Benbow 69
John Benbow 67
