Annie Harris born Welsh Newton general help please
« on: Saturday 19 January 08 15:31 GMT (UK) »

I'm struggling to track down Annie Harris, born 1864 ish, Welsh Newton, Herefordshire.

I have her marriage cert to Walter Newbatt Dec 1889, when she is shown aged 25, with her named clearly Annie, and her father is called James Harris and is a farmer, Annie is shown as living in Wakefield at the time of her marriage.

On the 1891 census (as Anne Newbatt) she is shown as aged 27, born Welsh Newton, Herefordshire.  On the 1901 census she is called Annie and aged 35, born Welsh Newton, Monmouth, Herefordshire.

The registration district for Welsh Newton seems to be Monmouth.  Would you agree that this must be her birth cert ref Ann Harris Jun 1863 Monmouth 11a 35 despite the name being Ann and not Annie?

I have found Ann Harris on the 1871 census RG10/5301/Folio 53/page2/ 848431, and her family without her on the 1881 census RG11/5226/Folio 46/page7/Roll 1342259.  I can't find Ann/Annie herself 1881 or her family before 1871.

Can anyone confirm they think I'm right with the birth cert or find any other censuses for her or her family 1881 and earlier?

Thanks very much

Hiya Moletteuk

Annie is usually a pet form of Ann so I think you should go for the certificate

I think I might have found James in 1861

I cant read the address as it is faded but I think it might be Llangattack? the reference is RG9/3986 folio 72 page 8

Edward Roberts 59 head m farmer of 140 acres employing 3 men & 1 boy b Monmouth
Mary Roberts m 57 wife b St Maughan Monmouthshire
Edward Roberts u 16 son b ?(cant read it) Monmouthshire
Mary Sibbons/Stibbons? 9 visitor b Llangattack? Monmouthshire
James Harris 22 u carter (servant) b Welsh Newton, Herefordshire
George Reynolds 14 u cowman (servant) b Penalth Monmouthshire

Hi,

She's age 8 in 1871 so I would think her birth reg could be,

Ann HARRIS    Jun Q 1862   Monmouth    v.11a  p.34

She could be fibbing about her age in 1891/1901 to appear nearer her younger husband's age Undecided
