Good evening everyone
I was born and bred in Worthing although all my ancestry is from Halifax in West Yorkshire.
There a local free paper here called "The Sentinel" and it's full of stories about Worthing in days gone by and has all sorts of interesting facts and stories so for those researching their Worthing ancestors it's very interesting.
I am posting this message because in the last issue of "The Sentinal" which was before Christmas there is an article about the cemetery at Broadwater which is in South Farm Road.
The paper is going to run articles about people buried at the cemetery "who made their mark."
So, if you have an ancestor who is buried there send the details (and a photo of the grave if possible) to: Paul Holden, 35 Chapel Road, Worthing, West Sussex BN11 1EG or email him at Paul.Holden[--at--]theargus.co.uk

Hi Jan
I presume "The Sentinel" is only available if you live in Worthing
I am in East Sussex but have many Ancestors from Broadwater Worthing This is a cemetery I have not yet had chance to visit but likely to have burials there
Some of my earlier Ancestors include My 3xGreat Grandparents Hester Teesdale born c1801 died ? 23 March 1843 she married James MacWhirter born c1802 died Feb/Mar 1838 and they married 25 April 1825 at St. Mary's Broadwater both were Tea Dealers and tobacconist's and traded from Warwick Street and then 9, South Street Worthing c1830's. Before them I have hit a brick wall
My Great Great Grandparents - One of their daughters, Mary born 1826 married Charles Joseph Wright born 23-3-1823 in Bishopsgate, all 10 of his siblings were born in Broadwater from 1827 onwards. They had 13 children all born in Broadwater Apart from his father I have hit another brick wall
Charles Joseph Wright was a photographer specialising in Carte-de-viste portraits, his premises was also in Worthing at 3, South Street where he also had a Hosier and Tobacconist shop and his wife had a Berlin Wool Repository c1850's then 1870's at 44 South Street and 1880's at 33, South Street now also a confectioner's, he had retired by 1901. With thanks to David Simkin from www.photohistory-sussex.co.uk and Barrie Keech from www.barriesgenealogy.co.uk who have both helped with my search If you see any thing about them I would love to hear

Hello Crystal
Yes, I do believe "The Sentinel" is only available in Worthing. However, as it's a free paper, if you have any friends in Worthing perhaps they would send you a copy. Or, alternatively, if you would like to send me your address "off" post (personal message) I'd be happy to send you a copy by mail.
You've done really well with your research, very thorough. As my ancestors are from "up north" I've never been the cemetery myself.
Let me know about the paper and good luck with your hunting.
Jan
