Aubin family of Gedney
« on: Sunday 20 January 08 14:39 GMT (UK) »

Trying to go back down the Aubin line of my family. My 2x great grandma Eliza Moody (nee Aubin) was born 1849 Gedney Drove End. Through census records I have also found her parents Dring & Jane and her grandmother Sarah born ca 1784, died Mar quarter 1872 Holbeach.

Sarah Aubin (but transcribed in error as Cobin in the 1851 census) is shown as living next door to her son Dring at 48 Gedney Drove End, being widowed and a farmer of 16 acres. In the 1841 census I THINK  Huh it says Publican but Ancestry's copy is very poor.
I have also found a Dring William Aubin christened Oct 1775 Wigtoft, Lincs and I am wondering if this is Sarah's husband. I do not live close to Gedney and wonder if some kind soul could advise me of which parish records I might look up DW Aubin's marriage in and where I might find them.  Is anything available on line for this? I can't send for Dring Sarah's son's birth certificate as I can't find him in BMDs Sad

Any suggestions, thoughts, tips gratefully recived. Thanks Sue Smiley

BIVRI has the marriage of William AUBIN to Sarah HAYES, 1 July 1807 Gedney

A William AUBIN was buried at Gedney 24 April 1832 aged 56 (National burial index).

I can't tell you if he was the bloke christened as Dring William AUBIN Sad

BIVRI also has the baptism of a Dring William AUBIN 23 March 1846 Gedney, son of Dring William AUBIN and Jane.

Thanks Geoff. Gives me a bit more to go on but think I need to check out parish records to be more sure. Seems odd if he dropped the Dring, as they used it for their son, and he for his son too!

Sue,

Dring William Aubin was married in the last quarter of 1842 in Holbeach District (GRO Ref Volume 14, Page 665).  If you obtain a copy of the marriage certificate, it should record his father's name and Dring William's age.  I think his spouse wa probably Jane Hutchinson - Free BMD says she appears on the same page.

Hope this helps,

David.

Hmmm .... interesting!

The Holbeach spreadsheet, available here http://s10.freefronthost.com/mi/index.html has

9 Nov 1842 at Gedney
Aubin Hobman DRING (son of Dring) to Jane HUTCHINSON (dau of William)

Probably a bit of dodgy transcription somewhere along the line Smiley

Thanks everyone. I already had the marriage of Dring & Jane as they were the parents of Eliza my 2x G grandmother.
I am actually seeking to trace the marriage of Sarah, Dring's mother and wondered if her husband might have been the Dring William born in 1775 that I mentioned in my original post. That was where my query on parish records came in. I am not handy for popping in to Lincoln records office.

Incidentally Dring & Jane's 1st son was called Dring William abt 1846 and he was married in Guisborough, North Yorkshire Sept quarter 1873 ( a fair way from Gedney but the same place that his sister Eliza was married to Robert Moody) Wink

Hi
Mary Dring married Robert Aubin 2 may 1774 at Wigtoft. This is from the Parish records.
That's all I've got as I am researching the Dring name.
Cheers
