So probably the death in 1862 wasn't this Ambrose, but probably Ambrose the father. I didn't find this entry originally because his name was written "Abrose"

I seem to have run out of steam. If you check what you have got, look up a few marriages/deaths and pinpoint anything you are short of, post another reply and I'll see if I can fill in any more gaps.

Good evening again Mary,
I'm not surprised you've run out of steam ! Amazing amount of info you've given me in such a short time. Many many thanks to you.
I'll run a check on everything and update my files, but it's going to take a little while. You've supplied a lot of hole fillers !
If you like a challenge, I'll post all I have on Ambrose the father to see if you can't crack that one ! The other Ambrose A. (A for Angel) is in fact my great grandpa, born 1840, (son of Ambrose the Elder who did die in 1862).
Thank you once again for your time and trouble. Most appreciated.
Nick
PS: I'm very sorry, I made a typing mistake earlier on. James wasn't married to Lucy LUKER but to Emily LUKER. Hence the confusion. I think Emily later became Emma for the enumerator.

Hi Nick,
Please don't post all details for Ambrose on this thread, it sounds to me as the research into this man will go further back than the censuses and I don't have access to the local Parish Registers and other documents which will help you.
Might I suggest you post a separate thread and ask again for help, stating the dates you will be looking at and hopefully somebody with local resources will be able to assist.
Another suggestion - have you thought of joining a local Family History Society, some counties have a transcription service for baptisms, marriages and burials, I find them very useful for earlier dates than censuses.
Mary

OK, I take your suggestion. In fact I have found a Hedges contact group who is also looking into the question, and I am following the matter up by different means locally - with no success to date, but I don't give up easily !
It would be worth a separate posting on the subject alone, as I have done 2 pages of research on him, collating the 3 different families back to mid -1700 to try and find a clue.
I'll call it a day for the moment, as you've given me a great deal to integrate into my file ! Thank you.
Nick
