Hi I have been looking for my ancestor, Sheila Maziel Elsie Bishop born district of Billesdon,Leicestershire. My family believe she married an american soldier and moved to the USA... I have never been able to find her in the UK records so was wondering if anybody had any resources to possibly find her in the USA.she may even still be alive.. My family placed an advert in bournemouth area in the late 1950s with no success...I will admit to knowing very little on emmigration records and the possibilities... could you help
Kind regards
Darryl

I've had a look around the BMDs a little and didn't find a marriage for her. It will be very difficult or a stroke of luck to find her in the US under her married name. Is there any hint of where in US she went?

Hi I know very little other than that she met a soldier and married them and moved to the USA... I have asked members of my family but because all this happened in 1950s it has made it very difficult,I also know she was in the armed forces herself, and she also moved to bournemouth area initially..... She could still be alive I have no idea,I have checked the GROs between 1944-1971 and she could of married the following people.....
Cosgrave Roberts Knight Ackerman Roach Blackburn Glossop Gudge Penston Bottomley Kirsopp Cocks Truman Robinson Meacham Mitchell Hannon Halfacree Anning Phillips Hudgell Taylor Cooke Marney or Baker North Adams Shaw Cox Binstead Jones Ellis Johns Machin Jeans Fretton Stone Walker Drinkwater
So with all those names its made it quite a difficult problem to solve...
Kind Regards
Darryl

One other option is to post on genforum and rootsweb under Bishop surname. Maybe by chance her kids are into genealogy and you might locate her that way. It's a long shot, but worth a try.
And one other idea, and you might have tried this already, is to take all those surnames you listed and plug in Sheila [each surname] on familysearch.org for the SSDI. If she died in the 70s or later and she worked, you might get a hit, or at least be able to narrow down the list.
Keep us posted.

Hi Kath I tried the SSDI, without success, but what I would like to say is a HUGE thanks to Karen aswell, because she searched all the surnames which was 39 in total under WW11 draft records, this has now been narrowed down to 9 possibles..
Frederick Taylor Gordon Cooke John Baker Walter Phillips George Shaw John Stone Basil Jones David Drinkwater John Johns
wondering if there might be a positive on the passenger listings
All the best

Way to go Karen. Gotta love Rootschatters. Narrowed, down, you could also check on some of the genealogy forums that have more of a US base (genforum, rootsweb). And even play with Google. With people like Karen helping, you are going to crack this one.

Hi Darryl
Sorry to hear you have not found your Sheila Bishop, although, don't give up on your search!!
We have had success, in finding a cousin of my mum's, in the USA. Mum's uncle went to the USA in the early 1920's, married an American girl and had an only child. The uncle died in 1938 and contact with this family was eventually lost. I have tried and tried to find information without any joy.
I was contacted recently, through GenesReunited, by a relation who descends from another sibling of the above uncle. This branch of the family are still in touch with mum's American cousin and addresses are being exchanged, so it IS possible

Hi Thanks for your reply, yes you have proved that there is always a possibility... I have been working hard on this and I think I may take a gamble on a marriage certificate as I have a passenger listing for a Sheila Taylor 3 sept 1957 from Southampton to New York USA....There is a marriage record for Sheila Bishop /Frederick A Taylor 1954 July - Sept quarter Pershore...I do know Frederick was a USA Soldier so there is a possibility....a glimmer of a hope
The only thing I did not check is whether Frederick Taylor was also a passenger outbound to USA...I have no credits left so cant check that....
Kind regards
Darryl
