Young family M.I. Nenthorn?
« on: Monday 21 January 08 19:32 UTC (UK) »

Does anyone have access to Monumental Inscriptions for Nenthorn Old Cemetry?  I'm looking for any of the Young family buried 1850 onwards, in particular Isabella, a child buried around 1862, daughter of Willaim Currie Young and Elizabeth Black.
Thanks

Hi Terry,

Would it be possible to track down a single CWGC stone in Nenthorn Cemetery to David Lunam?

I don't know whether it's a standard CWGC or a family stone, but it's listed as the only CWGC burial in the cemtery.

His CWGC entry:
Name: LUNAM
Initials: D
Nationality: United Kingdom
Rank: Private
Regiment/Service: King's Own Scottish Borderers
Unit Text: Depot
Date of Death: 20/12/1919
Service No: 200950
Casualty Type: Commonwealth War Dead
Grave/Memorial Reference: Near South-East boundary.
Cemetery: NENTHORN CEMETERY

Thank you,

Anne

Thanks Terry,

That's quite a discrepancy between 1915 and 1919  Undecided

I just copied his info straight from the CWGC site so presumed the date of death was correct. He doesn't appear to be listed on the Scottish National War Memorial so no way of cross checking between the two sites.

Now and again, if it's a family stone and it wasn't erected till some years later, it's quite common for the years to be slightly haywire but never usually as much as 4 years!

If it's a standard CWGC stone, then the info should match up exactly with what's in their database.

Anne

*Added:

Strangely, I found another David Lunam who died (according to the Scottish National War Memorial) on 27.03.1918. This one was born in Kelso and was in 13th Bn. Alexandra Princess of Wales's Own (Yorkshire Regt.), formerly in the Royal Army Service Corps.

How common is the name Lunam?

Hi Anne,

I had heard the name before but it's certainly not common to me. I looked at my other MI books and there are  3 in Greenlaw, 1 in Hume and 1 in Eccles. All these places are in pretty close proximity to each other.

The D Lunham was the only one in Nenthorn.
