Hi all,
I have John Joseph Nicholson (b. 1855 in Aspatria, Cumberland)
- 1861 census: Aged 6 living with his widowed grandmother and mother in Maryport, Crosscanonby, Cumberland.
- 20 Jul 1885: Married Isabella Smailes in Darlington, County Durham.
- 1891 census: Aged 36 (widowed) living with his 2 children and sister-in-law and brother-in-law in Darlington, County Durham.
- 1901 census: Aged 46 living with his daughter, second wife and step daughter in Sunderland, County Durham.
I have been unable to find him in either the 1871 or 1881 censuses. I assume he was still in Cumberland in both of those years.
Any help would be much appreciated.

Which censuses did you find his parents on?

1881, the family search one ,I scrolled down, and there he was christened in Aspatia 1855 parents Thomas and Mary..actually it would be quick going to the IGI..

It seems as though he was missed in both the 1871 and 1881 censuses.
