Of which Chichester parish is the Bishop's Palace Chapel a part - does anybody know? I have a marriage there by licence, and I'm interested to know which authority would have issued the licence.
Was every Chichester parish part of the Dean's Peculiar, or could some (e.g. that of the chapel) have been within the Archdeaconry?
The period I'm interested in is the first half of the 18th century.
Cheers, Stovepipe

Hi Jane,
The marriage is that of James Bates to Hannah Simmonds in 1737.
I've not seen the SMI myself, but I have a note that the authority was the Archdeanery.
I'm really just wondering if that's a mistake for the Archdeaconry, or whether it's the name for the Dean's Peculiar authority.
Cheers, Stovepipe

Many thanks, Chris. Seems like I made a mistake noting "archdeanery" - thought it looked odd when I revisited it.
Regards, Stovepipe
