Hello again - looking at my notes from Hertfordshire Archives, there were some other Stanton wills from Hinxworth that I didn't look up, but which might be on your direct line: 1805: Stanton, Francis sen carpenter Hinxworth 129HW67 21HR354 1849: Stanton, Francis victualler Hinxworth 130HW32
There's also an administration bond that I didn't have time to look for: 1720: Stanton, Francis Hinxworth ad bd H23/2206
Thanks Richard.

Hello there, it's me again. Can anyone find out about Ann Matilda Thompson, the wife of Albert Stanton. The 1871 census has her coming from the end of the Northern Line in Morden, but the only birth I can come across with that name is one in March 1850 and has her born in Royston,Herts. Is she mentioned in any earlier census? Yours Scott

I imagine the Morden in question is one of the Mordens just over the border into Cambridgeshire - Steeple Morden or Guilden Morden. Both are within the Royston registration district, so the 1850 registered birth seems quite plausible. Regards Richard.

I have just obtained the birth cert of Ann Matilda Thompson, born Dec 20th 1849 in Guilden Morden. Her father was William Thompson, a labourer and her mother was Betsey Waldock. Can anyone shed some light on this family. Scott

Quick follow up - I've just noticed Bury End also has a photo on www.imagesofengland.org.uk - search either for 'Bury End' or 'Hinxworth' and you should get there. Very attractive little thatched cottage. It's slightly out of the village on the road towards Ashwell. Regards Richard. For anyone interested, Bury End Cottage was the residence of the author Monica Dickens - see her autobiography 'An Open Book'. If you can hold of a copy, there is a photgraph inside of the bookcase, which used to be a fire place before the several small cottages were combined to make the picturesque building we see today.
My son's Great Grandfather was Harry Stanton, who was born there, along with Ada, Amy, Emily & George. He lived most of his adult life in The Cottage, High Street, shown here: http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=162227&mode=quick Next door to Horace Brooks, who lived http://www.imagesofengland.org.uk/Details/Default.aspx?id=162226&mode=quick Incidentally, both properties were heavily renovated in the late 1980's, early 1990's after their former occupants died.
If I can help any further, I lived in Hinxworth myself from 1978 to 1993.

Hi Mark,
Welcome to Rootschat
It might be best if you post a separate look-up request for your Osgathorpe line, saying what you already know and what you'd still like to find.
You can search for births deaths and marriages free on freebmd, you can find the 1881 census for your Stantons free to view at www.familysearch.org or www.ancestry.co.uk
To fill in your Stanton gaps, here's the 1891 census for Archibald : RG12 piece 141 folio 86 page 72 36, Girdlestone Road, Islington, London in household of Michael Concannon, Tram Conductor Archibald Stanton boarder s 23 Tram Conductor Herts Hinxworth Lilla " visitor s 27 " "
and 1891 for Thomas: RG12 piece 1101 folio 100 page 7 High Street, Hinxworth, Hertfordshire Thomas Stanton head m 67 Agr. Labourer Hinxworth Ann " wife m 64 Ashwelle
1861 census RG09 piece 812 folio 123 page 2 Bury End, Hinxworth, Hertfordshire STANTON Thomas head m 36 Ag. Lab Ann wife m 34 Ag. " Wife Ashwell Rosina dau 10 Straw Plaiter Clara " 8 Scholar Lavinnia Mary dau 5 " Henrietta " 3 Constantia " 2 months twin Abiahanna " 2 months twin all except Ann born Hinxworth
The 1871 census you have shows that it's not a son, Abraham aged 10, but is Abrahanna or Abiahanna, daughter, as in 1861
Kind regards Barbara
