cannot pin him down in 1861 here he is in 1871. george murphy age 31. b. falkirk. occ. tailor and clothier. head. mary murphy age 50. b. larbert, stirlingshire. wife. alexander murphy age 15. b. falkirk. son. mary murphy age 13. b. falkirk. daughter gibson murphy age 11. b. falkirk. son. jennie murphy age 84. b. hinmatha?,lanarkshire. occ. tailor. father? william alexander age 28. b. glasgow. occ. tailor. son in law. george alexander age 2. b. glasgow. grandson. william alexander age 8mnths. b. glasgow. grandson. living at 46,grahams road, falkirk burgh, stirlingshire.
i only have access to ancestry so cannot see the actual image but obviously george murphys age has been mistranscribed also the name of the father is wrong or it is the mother and not the father.

Thanks Wozzle, great stuff you have correct family. George Murphy 1819, Camelon,Falkirk & Mary Smith 1821, Falkirk are Eliza Murphy's parents, other Murphy's are siblings of Eliza. William Alexander was a widower at marriage to Eliza and came from Glasgow. Cheers, Dunmac. P.S. Gibson Murphy a name the passed into other families, ie. Baird, was a girl, and there was a cousin Jeanie, born 1896. Alexander 1855, Eliza's brother married a Mary Scott 1856 and Sister Mary 1857 marries a John Watters 1849, brother James 1846 marries a Marion Barret 1847 and sister Margaret 1844 marries a Alexander Baird 1844; so there are a few cousins around. Will try and trace further children you have added.

Hi Wozzle, Been checking out more of the Census's, and several have James the father down as Jennie but that Hinmatha is a puzzle, ? wrongly transcribed Hamilton ? Ancestry Census transcriptions seem to be full of errors in spelling, I know some of the documents are badly written but a lot of their transcription errors are easily rectified by checking previous or later documents. Thanks again. Dunmac.

Sorry Christopher, None in the Alexander family as far as I know, but Cupples family from Antrim, are connected in Falkirk, as well as the Murphy's. Regards, Dunmac.
