Passenger lists to Victoria and Adelaide
« on: Friday 25 January 08 16:12 UTC (UK) »

Hello friends, Dee, Cando, Sashar, Sparrett and everyone,

Hope you are enjoying the tennis I am!   Bet Leyton is cross he came so near against Baghdaddis because he could have beaten Federer!!!

I am tying up a few loose ends and having difficulty finding the right passenger lists for two people and hope someone can find the answers.
!
I have gone cross eyed trying to find them.

Robert McIndoe Robertson - according to the Cyclopedia of South Australia left Liverpool for Victoria in 1852 on the "Marco Polo".

Anne Wilson was in the area of Adelaide before 1850 when she married my GGGrand Uncle in Adelaide and that is all I know about her journey.

They were both from Abbotshall in Scotland and lived in the same street but if the facts for the date for Robert are correct they did not sail together.

Trust you are all well and with fingers crossed,
Regards,
Abiam

Hi Abiam

Looking at your previous posts I see Robt ROBERTSON was born 1832 so the following shipping record to Victoria in 1852 seems to be the only one that fits Robert.

http://proarchives.imagineering.com.au/index_search.asp?searchid=23

ROBERTSON Robert   Aged 19      DEC   1852   ABERFOYLE   Port B   Fiche 020   Pge 011

He wasn't listed on the MARCO POLO which arrived in Melbourne in 1852

Cheers

And it doesn't look as though the Marco Polo stopped off in Adelaide in 1852......

And a search of http://www.familyhistorysa.info/ brings up lots of Wilsons, but it is not of much help to you, I am afraid.  Undecided

Good morning dee.

Information from BISA  Undecided  has Robt arriving from Victoria c1854.

The Marco Polo arrived in Sept and there was one Robertson on board aged 46.  Perhaps Robt was only booked to sail on the Marco Polo?   My gg grandmother is actually shown on two passenger lists with the ships arriving in Melbourne from Liverpool within weeks of each other Undecided

Cheers

Hello Cando and Dee,

Thanks for your replies.  I reckon Robert arrived Melbourne 1852 on the Aberfoyle aged 19.
And it looks as though Ann Wilson's voyage will remain unknown.
One source quotes him as spending time in Melbourne and then visiting the gold fields and then onto S A.  So marrying a widow from back home in 1855 sounds feasible.

Thank you both,
Abiam
