uploading data to my webspace

Having successfully launched my index page I now want to upload some data files using FTP Explorer, which I use very successfully with other websites.
However all my attempts to load pdf and mdb files have failed, why might this be, could I have something set wrong, the index.html and image files upload without a problem

Make sure you upload .pdf files as binary.  Why are you uploading .mdb files? are they just for people to download.   The rootschat space is Unix/Linux based and will not do anything with .mdb files

Jane,
        Thanks for your input, however my pdf file will not upload either as binary or ascii. Any other ideas? maybe there is some rule about the filename or something. I have tried various filename changes without success. The filename and three letter extension are in lower case??
       Re the mdb this is in effect the same file as the pdf. At this moment in time I am experimenting on how best to display/offer my BUCKLEY One Name Study data.

How big is the pdf, perhaps its too big,  I don't know if there is a single file size limit.

might be worth thinking about using php and mysql to get the data up or do something simple with php and comma separated files.

The file I am trying to upload is only 55k.
I am not familiar with php or mysql but I will look into them.

        Another point I should mention is the fact that I have another three FTP sites that I upload files too. I can upload my PDF file to all of these, it is only my ROOTSCHAT site that does not accept it?

Hello c,

Sorry for taking so long to reply on this one. With the free RootsChat webspace we restrict the type of files and size that can be uploaded. The reason for this is to offer some protection against people uploading mp3 music and the like and distributing 'warez'. http://www.rootschat.net/agreement.html

Naturally, there are some very useful filetypes that we should include, and "pdf" (for acrobat reader files) is a a very valid one, I suppose the "mdb" may be useful for people who have MS Access too - especially if you have a lot of data.

I've now added these two file types so that can be uploaded.
