Good morning,

I would be very grateful for Census details of the following household if possible:

Ann WHITE (b. 1845 St. Albans) married John BELSHAW (b. 1843 Redbourn, Herts) in
1869 in St. Albans.

They had 9 children apparently:
- James Alfred b. c1866 in Luton
- Harriett b. c1868 in Redbourn
- William b. 1871 Redbourn
- Sarah b. 1873 Redbourn
- George b. 1876 Redbourn
- Annie b. 1878 Redbourn
- Lewis b. 1882 Redbourn
- Alice Letitia b. 1884 Redbourn
- Emily b. 1887 Redbourn

almost certain this is them in 1881
john belshaw seems to have become james belcher but other entries seem to confirm this is the right family.

with regard to the marriage entry above.
1. james belshaw or james white who was visiting in 1871 was either born out of wedlock
or ann white was married previously.
as she was approx 18 when she married john belcher
the chances are that this was her first marriage and that james was born before their marriage.

p.s. i have just noticed that you state in your original post that john and ann married in 1869
do you have any proof of this i.e. marriage cert.
if you do then obviously these people i have followed through are not the right people.
i will stop now until i hear from you.

Many thanks for such a volume of nfo.

Ann WHITE was born 30.11.1845 (Bmd 12.1845 St. Albans 6. 409)
She married John BELSHAW in 1869 as far as I know. I don't have the marriage certificate I must confess. However, much of my info came from a descendant of Harriet b. 1868 with whom I'm in e-mail contact.

I will double check on this point.

I agree with the birth references for John BELSHAW.

As for the James WHITE (1871 Census), I have checked to see whether any of Ann's brothers had a son called James, but the answer is negative.

James Alfred certainly appears to have been born before the marriage.

I'll get back as soon as I've been able to verify these points from my side.
