Railway line between Galgate and Kirkham

 A question for the railway enthusiasts.
  I am tracking the journey of a family from Galgate to Kirkham Lancs. In about 1865 -7 Would it have been possible for them to have travelled by train?Was the line open then and if so would there have been changes along the way?

Yes, railways were running between Kirkham and Preston, and Preston and Lancaster from the 1840s.  Your family would have had to change trains at Preston - as you would today. There was a station at Galgate on the Preston - Lancaster line.
