Llanfawr lookup 1767
« on: Saturday 26 January 08 11:37 GMT (UK) »

I am looking for the baptism of  John Roberts, who died aged 87 yrs/7 mths on Sept 29, 1854 in Bryneglwys Denbighshire.   He stated pob as Llanfawr MER on the 1851 census.  Am new to Merioneth research - are their transcripts available?  Would appreciate some advice on the best way to research his history.
Thanks for any help

Hi Heather

I've got the records but they're in N/C and I'm not back there until Tuesday evening.

If no one comes to the rescue by then, I'll have a look  Smiley

They've done all the penllyn parishes, Heather. They were all moved to  Clwyd in 1974 so they are the parishes that were covered  Smiley

Hi Heather

I can't find a John Roberts of that exact age Sad

The nearest are:

29 Sept 1765 - son of Rees and Anne, Ciltalgarth
15 October 1769  - son of Thomas and Catherine, again Ciltalgarth
11 April 1769  - son of Ellis and Anne of Ty'n y Ddol

However, these are baptisms so he could have been either of the last two with a late baptism  Undecided

Hi Heather

I've had another look at Llanfawr - when I was looking for Peter's ancestors - and have found some possibles in the semi-patronymic form (i.e. without the ap but definitely patronyms)

Baptisms - Llanfawr/for

Semi-patronymic form

1st February 1767 John s/o Robert Cadwalader and Margaret of Penmaen

14 June 1767 John s/o Robert Rees and Jane of  Caegnant

22 March 1768 John s/o Robert William and Catherine of Rhiwaedog

Regards

Hi Gadget

I've just received the Llanfawr Parish Register transcripts in the mail.  Wow - what a perfectly awful confusing format compared to the others from Clwyd FHS - at least all the others I have seen which were at least in date order.  Anyway I wanted to thank you for the time you must have spent picking out the possible baptisms for me - much appreciated. Oh not quite useless - I did find a few for you after a big struggle  Cheesy

I think it was done in Excel and sorted like that. It would have been fine if they'd sold it as an excl file and then we could have sorted it by any variable  Smiley
