Hi Darlene
I'll be looking up the gaol record for another person later this week in Gloucester Archive, so will also search for your Job. Thanks for finding the ref. number. It saves time. If you look at the previous request by williamscdr for a gaol look-up, Keziahemm has explained what information you can hope to find in the record.
Regards,
Gillg

This is what I found in the gaol records, Darlene:
10 June 1834 Job Evans Minchinhampton age 20 Painter Height 5ft 3in. Hair dark brown, eyes dark brown, complexion sallow, face long. Larger wart on right thumb. Wart on 2nd and 3rd fingers left hand. 4 moles on left arm. ?? 3rd joint middle finger. Can read but not write.
Charged on the oaths of John Heskins, Cornelius Bown, Harriet Lovett and others with having on the 6th day of June instant feloniously to have taken and carried away one wether sheep, the property of the said John Heskins from a field in the parish of Horsley. Verdict: Guilty Sentence: Transportation for life Sentenced at Summer Assizes 9 August 1834 Conduct: Orderly
Job was sentenced along with Yesan Risby age 22 of Horsley for this crime and both received the same sentence.
It certainly seems a harsh punishment, but it could have been a death sentence at that time. Sorry there was no information about his family and no definite date of birth. I could have a look next time I'm down at the RO in the Minchinhampton PR to find his baptism and any family details. The only Job Evans born 1814 on the LDS site is from Yorkshire, so rather unlikely!

Darlene
I have looked for Job Evan's baptism in Minchinhampton without any success. If his gaol record is to be believed, he was 20 in 1834, so born c 1814. I searched between 1810 and 1820 but didn't find him, although there were several Evans families around at the time, so these are Evans baptisms
18 April 1813 Jane, dau of James and Mary Evans. James's occupation seemed to read My (Military?) & Army. 12 Sept 1813 Sarah dau of William (labourer) & Ann of Pinfarthings (on the edge of Minchinhampton Common) 17 Apr 1814 William son of Thomas (mill man) & Ann 14 Aug 1814 Harriet dau of Thomas (labourer) & Sarah of Littleworth 21 Aug 1814 Maria dau of George (weaver)& Elizabeth of Box 17 Sept 1814 Rebecca dau of William (weaver) and Rebecca of Box 20 Oct 1816 Charles son of George (clothworker) & Ann of Bourne 4 Dec 1816 Eliza dau of Thomas (wheelwright) & Eunice All these places are close to Minchinhampton
I had a look in Horsley PR, since the theft took place there and Job's companion came from there, but only found 25 Dec 1815 John son of John (cordwainer) & Esther 2 Jun 1816 Charles son of ditto
All of which doesn't help much unless Job and John from Horsley were the same person.
Sorry I can't help more.
Gill
