Williamson - Clenor

Hi

My Great Grandfather was Frederick Williamson, who according to the 1851 Paddington Census, was born in Berkshire around 1812. The Ancestry.com transcribers list the birth place as Clenor, Berkshire. As Clenor doesn't exist, I have concluded that he must have come from Clewer.

On this assumption I ordered the Parish Registers of Clewer St Andrew hoping that there would perhaps be a birth and/or baptism record of his listed, which there isn't, and have come to a bit of a dead end.
As I am now 'suspicious' of his recorded birth place, I was hoping that someone with experience of the local area my be able to 'throw some light' on this and point me in the right direction.

My Grandfather was Edward Charles and he end up working for the Wigram family of Esher Place in Surrey for most of his life - I believe the Wigram family were also from Windsor area, although this could just be a coincidence.

I would appreciate any help you can suggest and thank you in advance.

Hi Spruce,

Have you found him in other census to see what is given there for his birthplace?

I can see a Frederick and Charlotte Williamson in 1861 and 1871 and his birthplace is given as Farnham Bucks, and Buckinghamshire.

Farnham is about 6 miles from Clewer.

By the way, the 1851 census image does look much more like Clenor than Clewer, so not a transcription mistake, but maybe one by the enumerator!

Thanks for the reply.

I initially had these 2 as my ancestry up until the 1851 Census became available though Ancestry. The 1851 census listed some of their children's names that have been past down the family.
Although I haven't found him on later census', our Charlotte died in 1852 in Westminster so also presume that Frederick also died before the 1861 census, but that's a guess.
I also think that I found the other Frederick on the 1851 census somewhere as well with children unfamiliar to me. And of course the 1841 census wasn't much good with people's birth place.
