If anyone is going to New Register House and could spare a moment to check a death for me, I'd be very grateful.
William Henderson, born 1895 Dundee, son of John Henderson and Jane Lamont, was a merchant seaman, and according to family stories was lost at sea during WW2.
I've just checked the Scotlandspeople index and found an entry in the Minor Records, Marine Register, for a William Henderson, died 1942, which seems to fit.
I'd love to know if this is the right William and any other details that would indicate where he died.
The only William Henderson I can see in the Minor Records, Marine Register, of Scotlandspeople, died 1942, was aged 23. Your William was born in 1895. Or have I got that wrong? Have you tried looking at the CWGC website? If your William was in the MN and died as a result of enemy action then he will be commemorated by the CWGC. Did you access the full image on Scotlandspeople (5 credits)?
Thanks for the info - that's definitely not the right William then. Yes, I did check the CWGC site - not there. I didn't check the full image on SP - I've run out of credits and need to get some more vouchers. I guess he could have died anywhere in the world.
Minor Records deaths don't include the names of the deceased's parents, so the only extra information you would have got was the exact date, and the ship he was serving on. Not enough to confirm his identity.
