Help please!
I am trying to do a "surprise" family tree for an elderly aunt based around her grandmother - Kate Evelina Frohock (or "de Frohock"). So far, I'm not doing very well!
I know her date of birth : June 1863 in Willingham. I have her in the 1871 census living with her mother Elizabeth. (Apparently the father - George -died young. ) Kate has two sisters, Mary and Annie.
They were farmers (quite a big farm 170 acres, employing 5 men....).
There is a Thomas Frohock living in the same road "Main Street", Willingham. He is a retired farmer of 77. I don't know if they are related, but would think so.
Kate married a Charles Thomas Wooldridge in June 1885. I have them in the 1891 census living in St Cuthbert, Bedfordshire, England - and then I'm stuck!!
I would be very grateful for any help in finding anything else about Kate and her ancestors and descendants....
Many thanks
tilly

Hi Tilly,
As always the basic starting information will be crucial to your research.
(Apparently the father - George -died young. )
Where does this information (esp. the name George) come from? I don't see any suitable marriage or death of a George, but I do see a William marrying and a William dying at the right sort of time and in the right place:
Marriage
William FROHOCK
to Sophia GIFFORD or Elizabeth TIBBITT
Dec 1861 Chesterton 3b 1071
Death
William FROHOCK
Sep 1865 Chesterton 3b 299 (unfortunately ages not indexed until 1866!)
So - how reliable is the information that you are looking for a George?

Hello Anna and Tati
Thanks for the info - I'll look it up.
I was also starting to wonder whether the name George is correct as I can't find him anywhere! I was told all this on the phone by my aunt yesterday, but she does tend to go from one subject to another and - as we were on the phone for over an hour - I might have got the name wrong!
I don't want to ask her too many questions, as it will spoil the surprise....... but if necessary, I'll try and get the information somehow.
thanks again
Tilly

Viz. the Thomas Frohock who in 1871 is living next door to the widowed Elizabeth: in 1861 he appears at the same address (Main Street, Willingham) with unmarried son William Frohock, 25, farmer's son, in the household.

When's auntie's birthday. In other words, how long have we got?
Long enough to order Kate Evelina's birth cert?

A tree on Rootsweb has Kate's father as William
http://wc.rootsweb.com/cgi-bin/igm.cgi?op=GET&db=linclinks&id=I037508
The lady who has researched it is pretty reliable as I have worked with her on her Bowd family
Depends on time - I would normally say verify everything in other people's trees, but as the George name seems less than reliable I'd be tempted to go with the tree! The tree accords with what Anna has deduced

Hello David, Anna and Tati
Thank you very much for all the info .... It seems to fit together very well.
It'll be a bit of a tight squeeze to do it for her birthday - as it's on Wednesday! No - I'd like to give it to her when I go to England at the beginning of May....
All the information you've given me is going to help me find out even more...... but if you have any more ideas it would be great - especially as I don't know anything about the family.
I shall have a look at the family tree on Rootsweb too - that will be very interesting.
So - thank you very much again for your help
Tilly

Tilly, see also this old Rootsweb message re the Frohock family - doesn't mention William among the children of Thomas Frohock and Mary Pike, but may provide avenues for going further back.

Hello Everyone!!
Just to let you know that I have telephoned my aunt - tried to be discreet and told her I hadn't found out anything at all about her family - so she told me everything again!!
Apparently she doesn't know the Christian names of Kate's parents..........so I think we can take it that you are right about William and Elizabeth!!!
Kate had two sisters - Annie and "Lizzie" (I think this must be Mary, but apparently she was known as Auntie Lizzie!). Kate and Mary (I think she said Mary) married the two Wooldridge brothers, Charles and GEORGE! Charles and Kate Evelina Wooldridge had a daughter Ina Muriel, who married a John Leonard Jordan - and they had my Aunt! John Jordan's father was Arthur, maybe from Cirencester, his father maybe from Wales.
Couldn't ask much more without it becoming suspicious...............but also found out that Kate's parents owned a brewery and a farm.
I've had a look at the site Anna gave me on Rootsweb - very interesting!
I am going to have to print all this off and have a read through - probably with a glass of wine to help me concentrate.
Bye for now - and thanks again

Willingham parish register baptisms 1793-1874 have been extracted onto the BVRI.
There are no baptisms of any children of William and Elizabeth, which is unfortunate.
William Frohock, father Thomas, married Elizabeth Tibbitt, father William, on 2 Oct 1761 at Willingham
William Frohock, son of Thomas and Mary, was baptised on 1 Jan 1837, along with his sisters Eliza and Jemima, so it looks as though a couple if not all were late baptisms**. There were earlier children of Thomas and Mary if you want them - just shout.
Thomas Frohock married Mary Pyke at Willingham on 29 March 1814 (IGI). Thomas Frohock, son of Thomas and Alice, was baptised on 19 Jan 1794 - which ties in with the Thomas you found in 1871 aged 77. The IGI has a marriage of Thomas Frohock and Alice Wayman on 3 Sept 1786 at Willingham
David
** His age in 1841 was 6 so he seems to have born 1834/5
