Hi, I wonder if anyone can help me track down John Inglis, b about 1790 in Duntocher. The date is not necessarily accurate as it's taken from the OPR of his marriage to Janet Reid on 14th July 1810. I'd be grateful for any help as I've hit a brick wall with this one - can't find him on Scotland's People. Thanks, Kathy

Hi Kathy, I think this is most likely your John
JOHN INGLES b 17th Dec 1788 Old Kilpatrick DUM.
Father WILLIAM INGLES
Mother ELIZABETH REID
Also saw the 1810 marriage on the IGIs,did you notice that the Banns for what appears to be the same couple were called on 27th July 1810 in Renfrew.
There is a submitted entry for a Janet which might fit.
JANET REID 26th May 1890 Paisley REN.
Father THOMAS REID
Mother JEAN REID
I picked this Janet as her father has the same first name as what appeares to be John and Janet's second son. Do you have the family in Kilsyth about 1817-19?
Val

Hi Val,
thanks! I think this must be my John - and he was a twin! I had tried to find him on Scotland's People before, but for some reason couldn't. With your info he's turned up! I have Janet with different parents - John Reid and Mary Campbell. The family moved to Kilsyth in 1816/17, as the first two children were born in Old Kilpatrick and from then on they were born in Kilsyth. Do you have any connection with the family? I have quite a lot of info if you do! Thank you again, Kathy

Hi, Kathy . . . I'm doing some research as a surprise for a friend, and was delighted to find your posts about the Inglis Family. I'd like to make sure I'm on the right track . . .
Are the children of John Inglis and Janet Reid: William, James, John, Hugh, and Elizabeth? Are there others?
My friend descends from John and William.
Can you tell me when and where John and Janet died?
Thank you! Barb

Hi Barb,
Janet died "from debility of age" on 23rd March 1867 at HIgh Street Kilsyth. The informant was William. John's death is a mystery. He does not appear in the 1841 census or afterwards and does not appear in statuary death records after 1855. I have to assume he died before 1841.
If you email me at kathytrevelyan@hotmail.com I'll give you access to my tree on ancestry. It has a lot of info about this family.
I'm descended through John and Janet's son Thomas and am in regular contact with a 'cousin' descended from Hugh.
Regards, Kathy
