Burslem St John the Baptist graveyard
« on: Wednesday 30 January 08 08:55 GMT (UK) »

If any person is looking for a grave let me know the name. I will only be able to find it if it has a memorial. I do not do to the records office

I also stumble about other burial sites in North Stafford doing MIs when I have time, again any names let me know and what area. The general area I cover is from Stafford town northwards to the borders of other counties

You and I have met on the Potteries Mailing list and we have discussed the Lovatts I think.

Alf can often be found on The Great War Forum

Hi William & Jane

William, No, Durber found

Jane, I have found the following

Both stones are laid flat. The first inscription the top of the stone has been removed for some reason, and I could not find it

Ann, mother of the above, and wife of Richard Kelsall
died 25 October 1864, age 55
Richard, died 19 April 1871, 67

James Kelsall, 25 February 1828, 60
Jane, his daughter, 8 February 1825, 18
Lydia, wife of Micheal Lewis and d/o James Kelsall
died 2 October 1829, 36
Sarah, w/o James Kelsall, 19 May 1847, 82

Alf - you are a genius.

I don't think Ann & Richard are relatives - I will check them out on the censuses.

However James Kelsall is my 4 x gt grandfather! Could you give me a steer to where the stone is so I can stop by and photograph it on my next trip up to North Wales. Now if only I knew who James's father was.

Cheers

Richard is one of the fishmonger Kelsalls to whom I haven't been able to establish a link.
Richard and Anne are living in Queen St, Burslem in 1861

Hi belmichael64

I have not found any of your names, however there are about 12 that I did not finish and they are laid on the ground by a wall. Also I noted that there are a few that have been damaged and bits are missing they are also on the ground.

I will contact you once the other stones have been checked, these may belong to graves where the bodies have been reinterred at Carmountside when the road was widened and the church car park constructed.
