Zechariah Ellis of LIghtcliffe
« on: Wednesday 30 January 08 12:34 GMT (UK) »

I am trying to find details on Zechariah Ellis, born in Lightcliffe in about 1776.  I have been unable to track down his death details, but given he doesn't appear on the BMD lists, presume he died before 1837.  He is my gggg-grandfather, and I would love to know anything about him.  His second son, Sidney Ellis, was later Schoolmaster at Lightcliffe and a parish warden, but I can find very little about Zechariah.  I'd appreciate any advice or help.  Fiona Grin

Hi Fiona
Not really much help but did your Zechariah have siblings ?
I have a Jacob b 1780 and a Luke b 1785 near Lightcliffe.
Biblical names repeat for several generations but I didn't come across Zachariah / Zechariah. The family / families were situated in the Lightcliffe, Hipperholme, Coley and Shelf areas in the early 1800's,  moving towards Witchfield and North Bierley later.

There is also a reference to your Sidney Ellis on Malcolm Bull's most excellent Calderdale Companion

Hi Dave

It is probable that they could be siblings.  I have James Ellis as the father of Zecharaiah, but as yet have identified no other siblings.  I had found the reference to Sidney on Malcolm Bull's site, and been in touch with him to provide details on Sidney's dates.

I am able to provide an update on my earlier post about Zechariah.

He was the son of James Joseph Ellis (1750-1820) and Mary Elmsall (1753-1824) of Lightcliffe and I have only been able to identify one sibling, James James Ellis.  I have not been able to find a death date for Zechariah.

James Joseph was the son of Joseph Ellis (1724-1773) and Martha Brown (1724 - ?).

I would welcome any additional information anyone can supply.
