I am seeking help verifying my 3xGreat Grandfather - James Hodges b.abt.1791 in Kington, Herefordshire. His wife was Elizabeth ?. He moved to London before the 1841 England census, where he was shown residing in North Square Stepney. A familysearch record shows a James Thomas Mutlow Hodges of Kington though I cannot verify this is the same person. Any help would be appreciated in establishing his vitals, his wife Elizabeth's surname, and his parentage. As a new member of this forum, it will take a while to get to grips with how it works, meanwhile any assistance is welcome.
Many thanks Wozzle. I will look up that IGI record now. Children of James' marriage, I have 4 (so far) - John abt 1816, Henry 1824 (my g.g.gfthr), George abt 1828, and Emma 1833. Census records show James born Kington bet.1791 and 1801. I found a marriage to Elizabeth Chipps 1822 in London, but that appears a little late for son John! I don't know whether James moved to London before or after his marriage (or indeed whether he may have been married twice). Your suggestion re Elizabeth Veal m.1809 would make son John's birth in 1816 legitimate. Son Henry's birth record (IGI Batch No: C006339, Call No: 0380133) shows parents as James Hodges and Elizabeth. Without a lot to go on, I shall keep looking - I do need to prove James' birth first. Meantime, thanks for your help.
