Some time ago a request was made for help with identifying some 19th century photographers in Grahamstown, Eastern Cape. I too have a considerable number of unidentified photos taken in Grahamstown and other Eastern Cape towns and would appreciate some help with dating these, perhaps by dating when the photographers were in business. If anyone can help with this I would be glad to hear from them. Thanks Mary

Photographers came and went - but fashion was constant. By the time photos were in use the fashion mags travelled the globe almost at the speed of light (well wind anyway). Men are hard to date because they insisted on the comfortable slippers, but no woman worth her salt would have her photo taken not in the height of fashion.
As Jim says include the full scan and the backs if you can but the experts here can generally get within a couple of years.
