I have come across a Jesse Toodstich in the 1871 Census, born c.1849 in Calne, Wiltshire. Living in London at the time of the Census Possibly has a sister Eliza born c 1844. I would like to trace the parents but can't find any other person on the Census, BMD or anywhere on the internet with this Surname, can you help?
Thanks

You don't think this may be Goodstich or Goodstick? This is not a great image but I see a G not a T.

There is an Eliza Goodship born in Calne in 1843:
Births Sep 1843 Cleverly Eliza Calne 8 264 FREEGARD Elizabeth Calne 8 26[16] Goodship Eliza Calne 8 * Hughes Elizabeth Calne 8 262 Long Elizabeth Calne 8 266 Robins Elizabeth Calne 8 264 WILKINS Eliza Calne 8 264
I also think it looks a bit more like a G than a T on the image.
Regards,
Emily

And I found this on the freeBMD site that might possibly be Jesse?
Births Jun 1848 Goodship *se Calne 8 305
Obviously someone in that family didn't have very readable handwriting
And whilst trying to convince myself that it really could be Goodship (although the end does look more like stick on your image I found: 1891 census: Goodship, Jesse 41 location, Wiltshire Head location London
But I don't have complete access to the census so maybe someone else can tell you the rest of the household. Couldn't find him in 1881 although there were quite a lot of other Goodships from Wiltshire.

Thanks for all the help, it's falling into place now. I've got Ellen Brown, daughter of Eliza living with Mary & John Goodship in Theobalds Green, Calne and is down as Niece (1871 Census). So simple when it's been pointed out. Thanks once again.
