Hi ,
I have a question, would anyone know of a cemetary in st. Giles and would they possibly know the name of it, trying to find out if a family member is buried there, on the death certificate it says st.Giles, district of Reading/  then there is 33 Grandy Gardens.UD. could this be where the cemetary is or is it the persons address where they were living?
hope someone can help with information,
regards, JUNE.

Granby Gardens is not the address of the cemetery although it is within about 100 yards of the main Reading cemetery at what is known as cemetery junction.  This is at the junction of the A4 and the A329.

Both are just outside the boundary of St Giles parish but I am not quite sure of the ciivil parish (registration district) boundaries and Granby Gardens may well be within the civil parish.

I think that they are now in the parish of St Peters Earley but as that is a late 19th century parish, it depends what dates you ar talking about.  St Peters has its own graveyard.

The information on the death certificate shows that the death took place in the St Giles registration sub-district of Reading. It has no relationship to the place of burial. The deceased may have been buried at one of the churchyards in the district or in one of the Reading municipal cemeteries. However, there is nothing to make you bury someone near where they died - they could be taken miles away - especially likely if a spouse is already buried in a grave with space reserved.
