Buckland Kent PR
« on: Wednesday 30 January 08 22:26 GMT (UK) »

Is there a kindly soul who would check the Buckland PR (if it exists) for the presence of any S(t)impsons and more specifically the birth of Robert Simpson/simson/Stimpson or further variations thereof between 1740 and 1770-ish?
Cheers

Hi
The reason for the two identical messages is that there are two parishes with the name Buckland, one in kent and one in Bucks.

However, it would have been better to have asked for the other once you have 'struck out' on the first..

I will be in the library some time after the weekend - rather busy at the moment - will see what I can find if nobody beats me to it!  Grin

Hi Rog
Thanks for the reply. I hadn't figured that Dover was in Buckland. Unfortunately, or fortunately  he seems to have been an isolated birth. Got some more hunting to do.
Thanks again
regards

Hi Woozle

Dover isn't in Buckland!  Buckland is a parish on the edge of Dover.  St Mary the Virgin is the "parish church" of Dover - there are several others in different parts of the town (less now than there used to be).  Depending on which part of Buckland they lived in, St Mary's would only be a mile or so away.

I will check the details for you - haven't had time yet.

Thanks Bill
I had a look on the parish map for kent on the internet but it was all very colourful and sometimes the writing was so highly contrasted that it was illegible. As I couldn't find my glasses (of course) I just took it that dover was in buckland and didn't research further. I have now found my glasses though so I'lll go back and look.
Any info you can give me wil lbe most welcome.
Thanks

I have checked the entry for St Mary's and there are no more details.  This is the only event in that parish during the time period.

I also checked Buckland - there were no S(T)IM(P)SON baptisms there during the period.
