Have you checked freebmd? freebmd.rootsweb.com
As this is only a partial index - if the marriage hasn't yet been transcribed you will need to search the full GRO index which is available at your nearest main library if you live in the UK.
It can also be searched online if you have an Ancestry subscription or at www.findmypast.com which is a paysite
If you know when their first child was born, work backwards from that year.

In your original post you did not say you had searched the ONS marriage index on Ancestry. In your second post you said the index had been searched but you neglected to say which years you have searched.
Just where have you looked: m-index, censuses alternative spelling etc.?
I'd like to help but do not want to duplicate what has been done already.
If you know she was known as Mary you must know her married name - what was it?

Another not very nice thought.
If you cannot find her marriage you must ask yourself, "Did she get married?"
If she did not that would explain your problem. Have you searched the ONS d- index via Ancestry ?

That's great news - just been having a quick look on the 1901 and quite a few George Medlands's in a similar age range to Lizzie and birthplaces seen to be mainly in Devon/Cornwall areas

Found the following in Dursley PR, and the bonus was that I got to handle the original register rather than fiche or film. (I love it when that happens  ):
19 June 1920
George Medland age 30 bachelor occupation Cabinet Maker residence Chittlehamholt son of Richard Medland deceased
Lizzie Mary Embley age 32 spinster residence Dursley daughter of Charles Embley occupation Gardener
Married by Licence (because of the two parishes)
Both signed
Witnesses Charles Embley and Arthur Victor Embley
Chittlehamholt is in North Devon, which ties in with earlier comments. There is a George M born June Q 1871 in Tavistock reg district who might fit the bill.
