I think your answer may be just to log on to the individual County request boards and either place your question/answer as appropriate. You will find these are almost exclusively family history matters with some items of interest appropriate to the question.

Hope you get on ok with this.

I don't know if Elvira understands that she should post her specific questions about specific people on the appropriate county board.

For example Elvira, if you are looking for Bill Bloggs born 1820 married to Mary Unknown in the 1861 census living in Cornwall, you should post your question about Bill on the Cornwall board.

Then a kind rootchatter will look for them in the 1861 census and post their reply to your question. I can almost guarantee that there will be no chat at all. You may be asked a couple of adddional questions about Bill/his occupation/other family perhaps - but definitely no chat.

If there is a general Family History comment or query you'd like to share, post it on The Common Room. This is also for Family History.

Perhaps you should spend some time having a look at what is available on the boards. There is the Totally Off Topic Bit and The Lighter Side - now, these two contain the 'chat'. I think it would be best if you avoided these two boards. It is quite rare to find chat on any of the other boards.

You have actually contributed to these "chatty" posts - in fact all of your comments so far have been on these chat boards. I don't know if I am alone in not really understanding many of your comments and abbreviations you use - these make it difficult to comment or respond.

If you have a think about what you'd like to know about any of your ancestors, and ask a really clear question I'm sure people will have a try at answering you.

Alternatively, there are other Family History sites on the net which may be more geared solely to Family History with no chat at all and may suit you better. Try a google search. There is a lot out there. I can't recommend any specific sites as I only use rootschat.

Good luck.

PS Liz I missed the FH in this thread too ...

Hi Elvira,
If you start in the Beginners Board and read some of the "HOW TO..." threads, you will soon learn how to navigate the Family History stuff. Just don't go into any OFF TOPIC boards. Then you wont get any chatty stuff updates.  Grin
Leonie.
PS.
If what you want is GEDCOM images of other people's family history, then you will need to join Ancestry or GenesReunited or something like that.
RootsChat is a generalized forum for people who want a little bit of help and a little bit of reassurance that there is life beyond genealogy.
