Hi, Everyone, I have a particular interest in the family of J.G.BRADFORD bakers and confectioners of 9, Rose Crescent, Cambridge in the 1901 Census. I believe the firm stopped trading under this name in about 1926, and was wondering whether anyone has come across any photos of Rose Crescent, showing the shop front, any time between 1901 and 1926. I notice that he seems to have had 4 daughters by 1901: Violet aged 17, Dorothy aged 16, Mabel aged 14 and Emily aged 13... I don't suppose anyone has come across any of these young women marrying, would very much like to see whether there are any modern descendants. Very best wishes, keith N.B. Sad to say, the premises today is a Macdonald's fast food outlet, and before that I seem to remember that it was a Bernie Inn (at least in the 1970's when I first moved here)

Hi Keith
Have you tried asking at The Cambridge Evening News, I think they were around in them days. I think your right about the Bernie Inn, but will ask the Mrs as she comes from Cambridge.

Thanks, Ricky, I'll have a look and see whether they've got anything pictorial on Rose Crescent at the Cambridge Record Office next time I go. The trouble is, The Cambridgeshire Collection, which was in the main Lion Yard Library and has all kinds of fascinating material on Cambridge has been distributed I know not where while this same central library is undergoing a major refurbishment and re-development - not reopening till this Spring, I believe. keith

Ricky, Major redevelopment over 3-4 years, I think. And yes, I suppose it was over 35 years ago that they were doing the same sort of thing there. Can't wait for the main library to open again - used to spend many a happy hour in there doing local family history research. The Cambridge Record Office itself at Shire Hall, Castle Hill, is also going to be closed for refurbishment from 11th February for 4 weeks. They're knocking down the wall between the two reading/search rooms for one thing... keith
