I think she was married before.
Esther Buckingham=John Miller/7/6/1829/St.Leonard's/Shoreditch
I have her in 1841 & her age is listed as b.1811 with her is a Sarah Buckingham. Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy

There's something fishy going on here.I've found John Miller in 1851 in Shoreditch with:

James/2
John is listed as a chainmaker as in 1841
& Sarah Miller/34 listed as wife
Did Esther leave the family and run away with Thomas Hobbs her toyboy.

In 1851 Mary Durrell is living with James & Sarah Buckingham also they have a daughter Esther.I can't find a birth for James to the same parents as Esther but they do look like siblings.

 :DHi Jim - I don't know if Esther was ever a Buckingham - I did send for theMarriage cert since I was sure it would reveal Thomas as her husband but of course that was not the case - so there is no sure way to know what Esther's name was before she appears with Thomas. But I do appreciate your efforts on my behalf. Thanks.

Esther Buckingham who married John Miller has nothing to do with your Hobbs line, Viv. Esther died in 1846 and John Miller married her younger sister Sarah (the wife in the 1861 census).

I don't know who the Esther Buckingham was that married Thomas Hobbs but she's not the same one who married John Miller.

I'm descended from Esther's brother James Buckingham (who lived with the Millers in 1841). Sorry I didn't see your posts earlier or I could have jumped in then to save you pursuing a red herring!
