My father was born in Balloch, Dumbarton and my parents were married in 1950 in England, however, on their marriage certificate my father, Charlie Dines, is shown as a Widower. I'm assuming, rightly or wrongly, that because of the short length of time he married in Scotland and I would like to get a copy of his 1st marriage certificate. As my father was born in 1922 I make it that he wouldn't have married until 1940 at the earliest. Is there any way I can get the reference number so I can apply for the certificate? Scotlands People website will only allow searches for marriage certificates up to 1932.
Thank you Heather

Hi Heather,
Welcome to RootsChat.
If you wait a bit longer, the modern indexes for marriages will be added to the website soon. From there, you can order the certificate for a cost of £10.
Hope this helps. hume24

Hi Heather
There is only one death for a female DINES under the age of 59 (5 in total) in the whole of Scotland between 1940-1950...might be worth looking at until the extended marriage indexes arrive on SP. The death entry:
1948 DINES ANNIE FLEMING RUNDELL F 22 HAMILTON /LANARK 647/00 0093
I've searched for the name with exact spelling (no wildcards).
Regards.
Monica

Thank you very much for taking the time to reply. Does anyone know when the modern index is likely to be added.
Monica, thanks for looking up that info. I’ll keep it for when the modern index is added at least I’ll have something to cross reference to!
A little background on Charlie Dines – just in case anyone else looks at this:-
Born Charles Meikle McLaughlan in 1922. Name changed to Dines when his mother, Rose, married Thomas Daniel Dines in 1926. He had a younger half brother, Daniel.
Regards Heather

SP are 'just about to' introduce the extended marriage indexes. The births and deaths indexes were introduced 10 days ago. I would keep checking their site.
Regards.
