Forgive me if I don't do this right...first time looking for help.
Seeking death record for Thomas Johnston(e) and his wife. Letter exchanged between two of his sons (Andrew Johnston and Thomas Johnston) state that their father died in Nov. 1775 (77 years old) and was buried in the old Preston Church yard. Also his wife died (no mention of her first or last name) in March 1772 in Preston, and was also burried in old Preston Church yard.
I have found birth records for the children in Longformacus. Which seems odd since they are all burined in the old Preston Curch yard. Records spell the last name as Johnstone, however the monumental inscriptions I have found for the family is Johnston. Other thing is that in all the birth records only record Thomas Johnstone the father....no name listed for mother.
If your family are buried at Old Churchyard Preston is Thomas's wifes name not on the gravestone or was there not a gravestone. Not so strange they were from Longformacus but buried at Preston not much distance there and they did travel for work. I will not be anywhere in the near future to look at the OPR for Bunkle and Preston but if you have not already been there I could go look at the gravestone (if there is one) and see what info is to be gleened.
