CRAWFORD, BLUNDELLSANDS - pre 1927 "ADOPTION"
« on: Saturday 02 February 08 15:30 GMT (UK) »

Someone in the family had an illegitimate child in Liverpool in 1922. The child wasn't registered under her mother's name and I was told that she was sent to live with another family, although the mother and her family kept in contact with her.

The mother later married the child's father and went to live in Australia and when her daughter was 14 she went over there to live with them.

I've found her on the passenger lists under her father's name. She wasn't registered under that name, either, but that's the name she was known by in Oz. Her last permanent address in England was shown on the manifest as Springfield, Dowhills Road, Liverpool. (Blundellsands).

Living at this address from about 1926-1937 was a Mrs Sarah Ann Crawford and a Nora Mary Crawford, probably her daughter b abt 1909. Now I'm wondering if this was the lady who took the child in. It looks as though she wasn't registered under the name of Crawford either.......

I know it's a bit of a long shot (all my queries seem to be!) but if anyone knows of this family I'd like to hear from them as I'm sure they must have had some connection with the little girl.

Nora Mary appears to have still been living at 49 St Michael's Road until 1969

I don't know the family but I can tell you that Dowhills is a very pleasant road, and quite upmarket. Houses there are mostly detached and sell for £600, 000 to £1,000,000 + these days.
