Hi,
I am not sure if this is the correct place to ask, my apologies if it is not.
I am trying to find out were the records for the LIVERPOOL workhouse would be?
The person I am looking for is a CHARLES HARDING who was born about 1853 in the West Derby area, I think?
His father was a JOSHUA HARDING and he was a mariner.
CHARLES was put into the workhouse sometime between 1853 - 1870 ( not too sure about the time frame )
It is possible because his mother may have died. And his father went to sea.
To be honest, I know very little about CHARLES. I have tried to find a birth for him in and around 1853 in West Derby. But so far have been unsuccessful, also I cannot find a marriage for his father JOSHUA HARDING either.
Any help, advice or suggestion I would greatly appreciate.
Many thanks, Pauline.

Hi Pauline,
The records for Liverpool Workhouse (Brownlow Hill) are held at Liverpool Record Office.
They are filed under the following Reference No: 282 NIC/4A - 282 NIC/4/4. these cover baptisms of children born in the workhouse.
Also, don't quote me here, but I think many marriages and baptisms etc of people in the wokhouse took place at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church, Hawke Street, Copperas Hill, Reference No. 282 NIC.
Not to be confused with the C of E Parish church of Out Lady and St. Nicholas with St. Anne....
Regards
Paul

Hi Paul,
Thank you for the information, helps to make things a bit clearer.
At least I have somewhere to go and ask, beginning to feel that there was nowhere that could help.
So thank you for this.
Best regards, Pauline.
