Seeking information on Edward Jones b.1793 Bettws and wife Mary b.1799 in Aberhavesp Do you know Mary's maiden name? If not, one of the later childrens' (post 1837) birth certificates will tell you.
(I can see some of the childrens' baptisms listed on the IGI, but of course no maiden name for Mum!)

Hello again
Your profile doesn't say where you are - UK or abroad? - but the National Library of Wales in Aberystwyth has all parish registers on microfilm, plus many other helpful sources. I went there last summer and had such a successful day, finding many baptims and marriages. I thoroughly recommend it!!!
If you can't get there in person, try phoning or emailing.....you never know

This could be it! They had a daughter with the middle name Hudson, and I wondered if it was after her mother's maiden name. Thanks so much Gadget.
I shall definitely make a point of visiting Aberystwyth, Lloydy - sound like just what I need. I live near London. Regards Mary

Thanks Gadget!
In all the censuses it says that Mary was born in Aberhavesp (Aberhafesp), so Thomas could be her father, and Mary Davies her mother. The fact that John Hudson was given his natural father's surname indicates a degree of commitment of the couple who may have gone on to marry. There is a very interesting social comment on illigitimacy in the Mainstone area of that time at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~acwager/Chester/XSM_TheChesterFamilyinMainstone.htm
(which incidently actually mentions my Jones family, as the Chesters worked on Edenhope farm at one stage.) The writer of this webpage has gone to a lot of work to provide a background and context for his family at this time, and I have found it very interesting, as well as the Clun branch of his family, at
http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~acwager/Chester/XSM_TheChesterFamilyinClun.htm
as my Joneses married into the Hamar clan of Clun. I would like to find out more about the Jones family and their background as my Jones great grandmother has left me lots of family stuff.
What resource are you using to search the Welsh records, Gadget? The IGI doesn't seem much use for this area. I have joined the Powys FHS and wondered what would be the best thing to buy to be able to search the parish records properly. (I also have a Williams ancestor b. 1775 in Beguildy... )

Thanks for those leads. I shall try and follow them up.
You are lucky to have some slightly unusual names in your tree!
