1930 census Where is Precinct 5 in Fort Lauderdale?
« on: Sunday 03 February 08 16:33 GMT (UK) »

My great grandfather went to America in 1907. I have just found him on the 1930 census in Fort Lauderdale. There is no street name on the census but does say Precinct 5. Can anyone tell me where this would have been or how I can find this information please?

Hello,  jillinderby,

Did you look at what is written in on the left hand side margin of the actual image??
Usually,  but not always,  the street name is indicated.  The street is not included on indexed information

Per Ancestry, 1930 Census, Broward Co., Ft. Lauderdale

District 8
FORT LAUDERDALE CITY, ELECTION PCT. 5, BOUNDED BY (N) N.E. 6TH; (E) N.E. 15TH AVE., N.E. 4TH COURT, N.E. 15TH AVE., N.E. 2D, N.E. 15TH AVE., S.E. 15TH AVE.; (S) BRICKELL DRIVE, NEW RIVER; (W) RAILROAD TRACKS.

District 9
FORT LAUDERDALE CITY, ELECTION PCT. 5, BOUNDED BY (N) N.E. 6TH, ELECTION PCT. LINE; (E) ATLANTIC OCEAN; (S) NEW RIVER INLET, NEW RIVER; (W) BRICKELL DRIVE, S.E. 15TH AVE., N.E. 15TH AVE., N.E. 2D, N.E. 15TH AVE., N.E. 4TH COURT, N.E. 15TH AVE.

Hope this helps.

Dear LissaM,

Thank you for your quick reply. Yes, there is a scribble in the left hand margin but I can't make it out. The one in the margin a couple of households above is NE2ST and a couple of households below is NE1ST. Does that make sense? At the top it does read Enumeration District No. 6-9. so I think that must be in the region that you've listed.

Thanks again for your help.

Hi Jill,   think this is as close as you may be able to get.

Was he at the same address in 1920.   Maybe street address written in more clearly??

You can look on MapQuest for what the area/addresses are today  --- the streets may be more or less the same though this is a highly redeveloped city in recent time and  most assuredly voting precinct boundaries will have changed many times in between.

Hi Lissa,

No, unfortunately he wasn't at the same address in 1920. I'll have a look on MapQuest as you've suggested.

Thanks again for your help.
