Hi Tish
James A Mewse married Elspet N Allan on the date you specify, at *Torry Nigg (Aberdeen), Kincardine. He wasa trawl fisherman,aged20. His parents were John Mewse (fisheman), deceased and Elizabeth m.s Hilott or Hitott. He wasliving at 7 Shore Brae,St Nicholas, Aberdeen.
Not sure if that is what you want but that's on the marriage cert

* Torry is on the southern banks of the Dee opposite Aberdeen.

Hi again.
on the 1901 census, does it have any information about John and Elizabeth Mewse? im trying to determine if James Arthur ( shown as 6 months on the 1881 census) is the youngest in the family.
Thanks again Tish

I think he must have been the youngest because on the 1891 census, Elizabeth is shown as a widow:
14 Hedgefield Road, Gorleston, Great Yarmouth
RG12/1497 Folio 14 Page 21
Elizabeth Mewse, head, widow, 48, charwoman, b. Norfolk, ? William, 16, ? (could be Coke) Maker, b. Grt Yarmouth Minnie E, 12, b. Grt Yarmouth James A, 8, b. Grt Yarmouth
The writing is pretty poor and James is shown as younger than he is but it looks like the correct family.
By 1900, when James marries, his father is shown as deceased.
Regards

Hi again Tish
I'm wondering if John and Elizabeth got their places of birth mixed up on the 1881 census. I've double checked and that's what it says definitely:
and in the 1881 census:
59 Blackfriers Road, Grt Yarmouth
RG11/1910 Folio 75 Page 53
John Mewse, 40, fisherman, b. Norfolk, Winterton Elizabeth, 38, b. Suffolk, Lowestoft Elizabeth, 11, b. Yarmouth William John, 6, b. Yarmouth Florence Kate, 5, b. Yarmouth Minnie Edith, 2, b. Yarmouth James Arthur, 6 months, b. Yarmouth

I've been looking for them both and I can find a suitable John b. Lowestoft and a suitable Elizabeth b. Winterton
Checked the 1891 and Elizabeth's birthplace certainly looks like Winterton

These seem to be two possible birth registrations for them:
John Mewse
Dec q, 1840, Mutford, v. 13 page 423
Elizabeth Haylett
Sep Q, 1842, Flegg, vol 13 page 114
If this is the case poor Elizabeth is in the Flegg workhouse in 1851 with her parents and siblings

There's something strange going on! I'm not sure if it's them of not but it's the only family that fit
1871
Whapload Road, near Gas House, Mutford, Lowestoft RG10/1779 Folio 115 Page22
John Mewse, 34, fisherman Elizabeth, 23, John S , Fanny, 8 Elizabeth M A, 3 months
All down as being born Lowestoft!
I'll ask one of my East Anglian pals to have a look, I think
I'll put up all I've found on the Mewse/Haylett line on the next message for Ricky to peruse.
