PENNUN Kezia, can you help find her please ?
« on: Saturday 22 March 08 10:02 GMT (UK) »

Dec q 1869, Kezia PENNUN, married John HAMLEY, in the Launceston District.

I cannot find a birth for Kezia, or a Pennun Family, in Cornwall.

In 1871 I do have Kerzia Hambly W 27 ( Kezia HAMLEY ),  living with her grandmother, Elizabeth DAWE and her baby daughter, Mary Jane HAMLEY, in Alternun.

Living nextdoor, is who I believe, may be her mother Catherine HARPER ( nee DAWE ).  As in 1861, Kezia DAWE, is living with John and Catherine Harper, she is listed as dauinlaw, of John, but I believe, she is in fact his step daughter.

Can you help find Kezia Pennun, please ?

Thank you.

Is this 1851 then?

HO107/1899 Folio 53 Page 5
Deep Hatches, Altarnun, Cornwall

Edward Dawe 57 Farmer 21 acres St Cleer
Elizabeth 57 Altarnun
Catherine 27 Altarnun
Edward 24 Miner Altarnun
Isaac 22 Tin Streamer Altarnun
Kezia grand dau 7 Altarnun

Looks like Kezia is illegitimate daughter of Catherine? Do you have the marriage certificate of Kezia and John? Could she be a widow? or maybe Pennun is her father's name, although if this is her birth reg. could her father's name be Philip??  Undecided

Hi Cat,

That is the Kezia, in 1851.

I do not have the marriage cert., as I have just found the information.

Kezia, if ages on census are corrrect, was born c 1844.

Her half sister, Eliza Harper, married Benjamin John Bilkey Trevains, in 1874.

A Kezia Hamley, married Samuel Bilkey Trevains, in 1873.

On 1881 census, Heziah, is aged 37.
Dauinlaw, of Samuel, is Mary Jane HAMLY, aged 10.

I am hoping my logic, is correct, Kezia Pennun, is the spanner in the works.

Sorry amended birth reg, should read 1844, slip of the fingers!  Smiley

ps. I looked at the actual index of Kezia's marriage and it reads "Pennon" but I'm wondering if its a transcription error from the registers because there doesn't seem to be any others with the name Pennon/Pennun. I think getting the marriage cert would be the best next step, unless someone can find the actual church she married in and check the handwritten register. Cant find the marriage on the Cornwall OPC  Undecided

Hello

I was about to post the 1851 and found it already here - but I don't think the 1855 birth reg. can be the one - she was 7 in 1851 ?

There is a Kezia Dawe registered Launceston Q2. 1843, tho.

I had also thought Pennun might be her natural fathers name, because I can't find a marriage between 1861 and 1869 for a Kezia Dawe.

Looking on the Cornwall census, there doesn't appear to be a Pennun family; however there is a Penon presence in Gwennap, and although free BMD has her name at marriage as Pennun, on findmypast it is quite clearly Pennon.

Just a thought.....  hope it helps....

Sorry  Cat - missed the red warning - again!

Thanks Mum and cat,

I did wonder, if Pennum / Pennon, was the natural father. ( as the Trevains boys were under BILKEY on one census, but trevains on others ),

I couldn't find Pennun / Pennnon and have gone through Alternun, looking for possibilites.  Pellow, Dinnes, Dinnis was a possibility maybe for a mistranscription ?  I couldn't find a Kezia or variants though.

I will take a look for a male Penon in Gwennap, on this cold windy day.  I wonder if they have the same wesather there ?  Smiley

Thank you both.

Thank you Althea.

I only got as far as Roche this afternoon, chasing the Bilkeys.  I did find some Penno families there.

Penny, gives me something to work on.

I keep forgetting the OPC. searchable database.

Your help, is much appreciated.
