Hi RBC
My Gt Grandfather was also a Coachman (not domestic) and lived for sometime in Camden Mews St Pancras.
I located who was paying the Rates for the property he occupied. The Rates were paid with a house on Camden High Road. The ratepayer changed a few times. I suspect (but cannot confirm) these were his employers. He MAY just have paid them a rent.
Good luck with your research Tony

Sorry for any delay in reply. I used the Rate Books at the local Council archives of the property location. So in my case for Camden Mews in St Pancras I used Camden Council Archives.
The person who paid the rates on the property where my GFather lived was recorded as was their address, which in this case was on Camden Road.
Good Luck

Yes I'm afraid it does mean a visit or ask if the Council Archives has a research service, which is usually a smaller fee than getting a researcher to do it. A paid researcher will probably go into more detail.
From my position in New Zealand, I have found Council Archives in the UK very helpful and understanding.

I have been reading everyone's letters with growing interest. In my family I have two brothers William and George Graham born 1853/1856, they both appear in London from 1881-1901 as Coachmen domestic in Maryleborne and Knightsbridge in Mews cottages. - William at first unmarried and sharing with a groom domestic - later married but still in a Mews cottage. Further investigation will be done- but thanks everyone for giving me a fresh direction to search. Elizabeth.

Just be aware that with the advent of the motor car the role of a coachman was changing through this period 1900-1910. Some had to become 'carters' while others just progressed to other jobs. Some would have learnt to drive the 'horseless carriage' and remained as chauffers. There were huge changes with consequences for many during this period. With the 1911 census iminent we may see some changes to our ancestors 'traditional' roles.
My own Gt Gfather was a coachman but by 1912 he was a 'steward at a Gentlemans club'
That's not to say ALL coachmen disappeared but change was happening. Tony
