1871
but I think this is the family you discounted earlier, I don't think I would be too hasty at dismissing them though.

Margaret Burns 35
Mary Burns 2
Patrick Burns 34  working in the corn warehouse
William Burns 8

both children born liverpool, Patrick and Margaret born Ireland
13 Snowdon St Liverpool

and this family

First children here... Ellen to arrive...  Grin

From Jenny page 6....
Did you check this birth?

thanks Les but that doesnt explain the Irish accent she had  Undecided - but it does explain the census and the birth  Smiley

now working on that census IF William was the oldest child born circa 1863 then Margaret and Patrick would have married before this date but not before 1857 and most likely in 1861 - when they were 25

where were they in 1861 ? here or there
maybe Patrick was from Galway and Margaret from Wexford they met on the quay to come to England and married there?

Rabbit - how certain are you that Margaret was nee Carr

there are no passenger lists from Ireland to the UK

With regard to the accent, perhaps she was born in Liverpool but moved to Ireland when she was young hence learning to speak with an accent?

Don't forget, Liverpool was a haven for the Irish, she might have picked up an accent from the neighbours!!

when Chyna (nyww) has her cert if she lets you know then you can squeeze her in there

and i don't think you can catch accents - but yes i had considered that maybe she (with or without the family) returned to Ireland in betwixt 1871 & 1881

Morning all,

I didn't discount this one, but where is Ellen?  Unless she was younger than stated on her marriage certificate that said 18 in 1889

Hi Toni,
I was told by my aunt, the last time she was in England, and my cousin was told the same by His mum, Dad's sister.

It is a question of not having any other info really and only knowing what I was told.

True, you should see the huge numbers of Irish on the censuses about that time.

thats what I am hoping for Lesanne... perhaps Rabbit can tell us later if she has checked the births out.

added.
note to self! must remember to look at the last page before replying  Tongue

The irish tended to live in communities in the cities and retained their accents, whether it be Liverpool or Sunderland or wherever there were clusters of them.  I think its possible that she had an Irish accent even though she was born in Liverpool.
