If you can't confirm the marriage how do you know it was Elizabeth Beaver he married?  There are several Elizabeths with George on the same page and numerous Georges with Elizabeths, but no Beaver Atkinson tie up.

Do you have a birth cert with the parents names?

The family is well documented in the census's with Elizabeth as the mother of the children. In 1881 Elizabeth is unmarried, no spouse and using her maiden name. I don't have copies of the earlier census's but if I remember correctly I think she was down as married.

Thanks Madpants, Albert sounds about right, Alf is Alfred and I don't have any cert's on that branch. Elizabeth is one of those niggly names that I keep coming back too when I'm not doing anything else. I must try Yorkshire BMD again, I gave it up when I could never find anything on it.

Hi Alan,

I wonder at the possibility of a mistranscription or name variation for Elizabeth?

There is a marriage of George Atkinson Sep 1855 Bradford, one of the names is Elizabeth Beanland

and there is a birth registered of an Alfred Beanland Jun 1854 Bradford

Heather

PS if she is the 24 year old visitor with the family in 1851, then she is transcribed as Barker on that one....

In 1881 Elizabeth is down as Married, just no husband in the house and her children are with her.

I think George died and she remarried, as there is on the same page

I would say that the Elizabeth Heather found is possbility with Alfred as an illigitimate son taking Atkinson and could be a co incidence with the similarity of the maiden name  Undecided

There is a married Isaac Beaver in HM Prison Hyde Road Manchester on the 1881, possibly the missing spouse!!!!  Shocked  Worth following up don't you think?  Grin

Ok back again, Ev, there does seem to be a large family of Beevers in Huddersfield including another Elizabeth b.1807, so it must be a family name and as you know mispelt surnames are not uncommon.........Heather, I had spotted Elizabeth Beanland previously as a slight possibility but throwing Alfred Beanland/Atkinson in to the mix with what Madpants pointed out, that would upgrade that possibility to "strong".........Madpants, a re-marriage had crossed my mind but your information has made that another strong possibility. Thanks everybody for your time  Wink, I need now to find a few hours spare at the w/e to persue your new leads. In the meantime any more new info will be gratefully accepted.  Smiley Alan.
