I'm researching COTTON in Birmingham and hope someone could check the 1841 census for the following COTTONs (all born in Birmingham; age +/- 1 year): John COTTON age 69 Thomas COTTON age 62 Mary COTTON age 59 (not sure if she married) William COTTON age 57 Sarah COTTON age 53 (not sure if she married) Joseph COTTON age 48 Samuel COTTON age 27 John COTTON age 26 Ann COTTON age 24 (not sure if she married) Jane COTTON age 21(not sure if she married)
If the John Cotton (age 69) does NOT have a spouse by the name of Sarah, I would appreciate a check on John and Sarah COTTON (ages > 48 years).
Thanks in advance for your help and patience.

Hi TC, Do you have any clue about which parish your Cottons might have lived in? Do you know what they did for a living? Do you have them on the 1851?
The reason I'm asking is because the 1841 census is not indexed, by name or street, so I need a little bit more to go on in order to start looking.
If you have them on 1851, can you give me a reference and I can use that to work back.
Thanks, India

India,
In the 1851 census (used the LDS CDs) for the older sibling group, I did not find John or Thomas. Nor Mary or Sarah, but again, they could have married. William was at Weaman St, Birmingham. Joseph was at Cheapside Court, Aston. All these siblings were baptized at St. Martin.
As for the second (younger) group, their parents were on Heneage Street, Aston in 1841. Samuel was on Heneage St in 1851. I did not find the rest of the lot in the 1851 census.
As for John and Sarah, if you find John in the 1841 and his spouse is not Sarah, don't bother chasing it now. I'll try to get a little more info.
Thanks, TC
